The immunization division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has developed and disseminated state and district preparedness checklists to support the state and district program managers in assessing critical information prior to the introduction of any new vaccine under the universal immunization programme (UIP). These checklists help in identifying the strengths and weaknesses at state, district and block levels to take corrective actions for effective and successful introduction of the new vaccine in the UIP. These checklists have been updated for the introduction of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) under the UIP.
The analysis of the data captured through the assessment checklists for States/UTs and districts would allow the program managers to develop an integrated roadmap of milestones and a framework for monitoring progress in preparing for PCV introduction.
